Welcome to the Notre Dame Website on Religion across the Disciplines, which from 2010 to 2016 supported a series of programs to promote the integration of religious thought into various disciplines. The projects were made possible by a $657,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The funding supported working groups composed of members of our faculty and academics from the most distinguished research universities; they examined and reported on how religious knowledge can be integrated into the study and teaching of their academic disciplines. Additional funding was dedicated to the recruitment and support of high-caliber graduate students at Notre Dame who worked and continue to work on religious themes in a variety of disciplines in ways that are likely to foster such integration in the future.

The study of religious thought and its integration into core disciplines represents a significant challenge for the humanities today. The University of Notre Dame was uniquely positioned to bring together an array of scholars from various institutions to chart a course that will help advance this dimension of the humanities, both substantively and programmatically. Notre Dame has been and continues to be no less uniquely positioned to play a leadership role in educating the next generation of scholars who can integrate religious thought into our understanding of the past, the present, and the future and do so from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
